Discover the secrets of the incasOne things I'm known for? The amount of times I can work in my Peruvian roots to just about any conversation. My friends like to make fun of me for this, but let's be honest, why would I want to blab about having my blood connected to a country with a plethora of natural gold. By gold I mean superfoods.
These are the powerful sources of vitamins and minerals which come directly from the soil we walk on. I recently met a lovely Peruvian named Karen Berrios who lectured me on all things superfood. She has her own company where she cultivates these treasures and packages them up so you can enjoy them across the world. I'll admit, I used to get my Maca from the Whole Foods shelves expecting to feel some out-of-body vibrations, but never came to it. I believed as long as I was getting the stuff I saw other health gurus douse into their coffee, then I was healthy too. Truth is, what matters most is where you're getting your products/food from. Just as I've become an avid farmers market visitor, I have opened my eyes to the benefits of knowing where your goods come from. Karen harvests her superfoods such as maca, camu camu, lucuma, cacao, and chia seeds in the Ayacucho and Pasco farms found in Peru. She ensures all are cultivated at the necessary altitudes to get the maximum potential from them. Now that I religiously use her products I definitely understand why the Incas used to take a spoonful of these varieties right before going to battle. So, let me fill you in on how you can easily incorporate these to your day. If you're a busy bee, then I'd suggest dumping this into a cup and taking it on the road! Ingredients: 1/2 frozen banana 1/2 cup frozen papaya 1 tablespoon maca 1 tablespoon lucuma 1 teaspoon camu camu 1 tablespoon chia seed 1 teaspoon flax seed 1 inch aloe leaf gel 1/2 avocado handful spinach almond milk *suggested: CBD drops How to: A good trick is to blend your spinach on its own with a bit of water, until all large chunks are gone. Once the spinach is fully liquified, add in all ingredients except for fruits. Blend well while dousing the ingredients slowly with almond milk. The trick here is to not use too much liquid in order to have a thicker consistency. Once the second portion is blended, you want to add in your banana and papaya. Continue blending until fully smooth and creamy consistency has been reached. Serve in a bowl and add toppings of choice or toss in a cup to enjoy with a (reusable) straw.

Pasta night will never be the same...Hear all, hear all! I have the perfect solution for those of us who can't put up with any more tomato sauce for our pasta. I mean, I can't be alone here, right? If there's one thing I can do to turn heads it's admitting that I hate tomato sauce. I cant stand it in pizza, pasta, or curries. Just anything. Here to save the day, I created a low-carb, high protein, and deliciously savory pasta sauce that'll wow your taste buds. No worries, I'm a huge fan of carbs, but I maintain low-carb days now and then to regulate my hormones and (try) to keep my skin clear. A few months ago I went through just about the worst face of cystic acne I could have never imagined. I tried everything under the sun and after a few months I was prepared to give into the harsh Accutane regimen so many doctors recommended. It was only a few days before my next dermatologist appointment that I found out "keto" could save your skin. Now, I know I probably just scared a few of you with one word, but here's how I managed... Short on time? This meal will tantalize those taste buds for longer than it takes to create! For as long as I can remember, school has been my first priority. I devoted so much importance to even getting to classes on time, that most of the time I wouldn't get a proper breakfast. I'm sure I'm not the only one who succumbed to cafeteria breakfast plates piled on with nutrient deficient entrees and a milk carton filled with sugars. Since these days I've vowed to give myself enough time in the morning to fuel with meals that'll energize me while also satisfying any cravings.
This toast combination was born after I had one too many banana and almond toast combos. If I was ever short on time (quite often) I'd slather on my favorite raw almond butter from Trader Joe's and slice up a banana to layer over. Elvis Presley liked pickles on his apparently, but thats a topic for another day... Heres a low down on how I reinvented breakfast for myself while also creating balance first thing in the morning! |
